April was a fabulous month for Abuela de Miami, mostly because of Hispanicize 2013 and the ongoing relationships that have developed as a result of that life changing phenomena. Rarely does an event come along that acts as a catalyst for change, transformation, advancement, development, connections, progress and most importantly “amistad”, friendship. We caught a glimpse of the powerful future we are creating and leaving for our next generations. Each of us, whether blogger, brand, sponsor, celebrity, panelist or expert, consciously or subconsciously realized that we were part of an historic event which left its imprint on all of us and therefore all we touch…multiplication effect.

It does my ’40 something’ heart good to see major brands present and actively pursuing the Hispanic market in the USA. I can recall when we weren’t even an afterthought. One thing that we haven’t lost is our loyalty and appreciation of those brands that take us into account. Who would have thought that Sherwin Williams, that icon of American ingenuity, would consider us influential enough that they would take a group of Latina blogueras on a fabulous art tour and then wine and dine us at an icon of Mexican ingenuity, Mercadito Restaurant, where the elegant Yves Stoopen and his staff received us with that wonderful Mexican hospitality and margaritas! And a number of my fellow bloggers have mentioned the thoughtfulness that was put into the swag we all received that evening.

It truly was the most enjoyable working event Abuela de Miami has been a part of and I am very appreciative and can’t say enough good things about Manny Ruiz and his team. I have to admit that my energy flagged a bit between workshops on learning how to better manage and develop my social media presence, to connecting with my fellow bloggers, to lining up interviews for Miami al Maximo, to dealing with cameramen who didn’t have the skill of my usual guy, to making sure I met some of the key brand and agency reps in attendance, and it’s not over yet, now I have to get up the courage to contact them and pitch my show, my blog, etc.

Most importantly my Twitter, Facebook and Abuela de Miami blog have blown up and I am now following people with names like Bohemian Babushka, Mamicool, Mamiverse, Coupon Mamacita, Urban Jibaro, Los Tweens, Las Gringas, Webcity Girls, Sazón Boricua, Spoiled Latina, Boomer Wizdom, Crafty Chica and a host of others, too many to mention!

A great ending to April and now ready to meet May head on!
Bendiciones,
Abuela de Miami
